Don’t see the answer you were looking for?
No sweat, just give us a call at 614.221.1600 and we’ll answer as many questions you can throw at us. Or you can contact us here.
Is there an age limit?
We do not have a specific age limit, but we do have a policy around age. We believe if you as a parent/guardian are okay with your child throwing an axe, we’re there to help make it happen. To date, our youngest thrower has been 5 years old. In our experience, young throwers around 10-11 years old and older do best – but a little athletic ability and determination got that 5 year-old to stick that axe. Any throwers under the age of 18 will be required to have a parent or guardian with them who is legally able to sign their liability release.
In all of our lounges you must be 21 or older to drink alcohol on our premises. We WILL ask for your ID, so if you’re not 21 or older, you won’t be drinking here, no exceptions.
Where are you located?
We’re located in the heart of Downtown Columbus at 309 S 4th Street, Columbus, OH 43215. If you’re not familiar with the area, we’re across the street from Grismer Tire and Auto, and half a block south of Dirty Franks, Late Night Slice, and 16-Bit.

Some side streets have cheaper options if you’re willing to walk a block or two. There are also several surface parking lots and garage options (Main St./4th St., Cherry/4th St. and 3rd St./Cherry)
At our New Albany axe throwing facility we do have our own parking lot.
Do I need a reservation? What if I just want to walk in?
Reservations for axe throwing are highly recommended to guarantee a lane for your group at the date adn time that you want. However, similar to a bowling alley, walk-ins are always welcome during our standard open hours as long as there is a throwing lane available. Wait times will vary depending on the day and time so make sure to check our online schedule to see if reservations are available. We are also a full service bar and walk-in bar patrons are always welcome during nrmal business hours with no reservation required. Just come on in, belly up, place that order and watch your favorite sporting event on one of our many large format TVs. Don’t forget that special events and private parties are available 7 days a week for 10am – 10pm. Not seeing what you’re looking for? Contact us or call 614.221.1600.
Is there a wait list?
Cancellations are uncommon so if the time you’re looking for isn’t available on the website then you’ll most likely have to pick another. Feel free to drop in or give us a call and try to get lucky but we can’t make any promises.
How do I make a Reservation?
Click here to view our online reservation tool. Use the calendar function to choose a date and time. Our system will walk you through the whole process.
How far in advance do I need a reservation?
Dueling Axes is first come first serve so if there is a day and time you really want, we recommend scheduling several weeks in advance. Weekends are pretty busy and fill up fast, so keep that in mind when planning your night out. You can occasionally find an open slot on the same day but we recommend booking a reservation at least a couple days in advance or more if you have a large group.
What if I don’t see the time slot I want for my Reservation?
Not seeing what you’re looking for or have a special request? Contact us or call 614.221.1600. Deposits can be made online at check out, or over the phone. We can aslo double check availability to make sure you get the reservation you want.
Can I bring more people than we reserved ahead of time?
Additional group members can pay on site but we generally recommend no more than 6 people per lane. With more than 6 on a lane, you may not get to throw as much as you like. That being said, the more the merrier!
What if we’re late for our reservation?
We run a tight ship and there will probably be a group scheduled for your lane when your reservation is over. Try not to be late or your time in the lane could get cut short. We ask that all guests arrive at least 15 minutes before their reservation for a quick safety talk and coaching session.
Can I rent the whole place?
Absolutely! We would love to host your group outing, team-building event, or fundraiser. Visit the Groups page for more information. Call or email us for available reservation times, package pricing, and any special requests your group may have and our event coordinator will make sure your party goes off without a hitch.
Do you have Leagues?
Yes! Check out League information here.
What if I need to cancel?
We know things come up and life happens. We ask that you give us a 48 hours notice for cancellations and after that we’re always happy to help you reschedule to another available day or time. We can also issue a gift certificate in the amount of your reservation for convenient use at a later date. No refund or gift card will be issued if you no show/no call for your reservation.
Can we bring our own drinks, beer or otherwise?
No. All Dueling Axes locations have their own, full service bar. No outside beverages, beer, wine or liquor will be permitted as it is against the law. All guests consuming alcohol on premises must be of legal drinking age (ID check required). Safety is our single most important priority so if we decide that you’re too intoxicated to throw safely, you will not be allowed to throw, no exceptions.
Food and drink available for purchase?
We do not serve food but there are a wide variety of food options right around us at both locations. We’re committed to being good neighbors so make sure to finish your night out with some of the best food our city has to offer right around the corner.
Can we bring our own food?
What could be better than pizza and throwing axes? We’re not sure either! Your group is welcome to bring any food you can think of. Just make sure to bring plenty of napkins to clean and dry your hands before it’s your turn to throw. There are also several restaurants right around the corner from us or you can make arrangements in advance to cater in.
Can I have food delivered?
Of course. In fact many of our local neighbors will deliver in their full menu options directly to your lane with no delivery fee. We even have their menus in our space for your convenience. Order food, bottled/canned beer, or bottles of wine. Want to see who our preferred local vendors are, check them out here. If you make an order using this option, don’t forget to request plates, utensils, cups, napkins and condiments.
Plates, utensils and napkins?
Unfortunately no, if you thought of bringing food then we’re betting you thought of how to dish it out. We will have trashcans and recycling bins for when you’re done.
Fridge available?
We don’t have a fridge available for public use but you can purchase your very own Dueling Axes koozie from the front desk.
Outside catering?
Go big or go home! Cater a full meal for your private event or have a pizza delivered for your small group. Just remember, timing is everything. Make sure your food gets here before it’s too late.
Is Axe Throwing safe? Has anyone ever been hurt?
Fair question. We pride ourselves on our safety practices and your safety is our number one priority. Each throwing lane is completely enclosed in floor-to-ceiling fencing and only one axe is allowed per lane. Before your reservation, our staff will go over all of the safety procedures during a brief training session to make sure everyone is on the same page. No sport is completely free from risk but axe throwing in our venue is closely monitored to keep everyone safe, even from yourself! We’re proud to say we’ve never had an injury. Learn more by reading our blog regarding axe throwing safety.
How big is the axe I’ll be throwing?
Great question. The axes we throw are about the size of a hammer and you will be throwing them from about 12-15 feet away from the target.
Will someone train us?
Yes! Every group goes through a short training and safety session in which you’ll learn how to properly throw an axe and do it safely. Training usually takes 10-15 minutes or less and your reservation time starts only after everyone is coached up and ready to throw.
Is there an age limit?
We don’t have a specific age limit but we recommend that younger throwers be at least 10-11 years old to make sure they have what it takes to stick an axe to the target. Any throwers under the age of 18 will be required to have a parent or guardian with them who is legally able to sign their liability release.
We are a full bar, so you must be 21 or older to drink on our premises. We WILL ask for your ID, so if you’re not 21 or older, you won’t be drinking here, no exceptions.
Is axe throwing hard to learn?
Throwing an axe and having it stick to the target consistently can take a little practice. However, the vast majority of our guests stick the target after only a handful of practice throws during training and many find that it’s not any more difficult than other throwing sports. The technique for throwing is pretty straightforward and our friendly staff will be there to give you pointers to make sure you have the best possible chance for bragging rights.
What should I wear?
We require all throwers to wear closed-toed shoes and we highly discourage high heels. We’re not the fashion police but do want to keep your toes safe in the unlikely event of a dropped axe and also make sure that our female guests don’t twist any ankles while throwing. Aside from that, wear whatever you’re comfortable in.
Can I bring my own axe?
We do not allow any outside axes to be thrown in our facility (except for WATL-approved axes on league nights). We provide all the equipment you’ll need to participate.
Is Dueling Axes wheelchair accessible?
Absolutely, we want to bring the sport of axe throwing to everyone who has the itch.
What if I’m Pregnant?
We only hold a PHD in axe throwing so we suggest asking your doctor if this would be appropriate. Common sense is a good rule of thumb here.
Does everyone need to sign a liability waiver?
Yes. All guests in our space must fill out a waiver in order to enter our facility. And yes, all information in the waiver is required, even if you are not throwing. The privacy of your information is very important to us. We will never share or sell your personal information to third parties or send you marketing communications if you opt out.
Can I fill out my liability waiver ahead of time?
Yes. Our waivers are all digital (please don’t ask for a paper copy, we won’t have one). If fact, in the lower right-hand corner of this page is an orange button that says, “Sign Our Waiver.” If you click on that, you can sign the waiver right now. You can also access the waiver from any page of our website on your smartphone, tablet or computer using the same button in the lower right-hand corner of the screen. Please take the time to fill out your waiver before arriving at our facility for a quicker check-in process. Don’t forget, even if you are not throwing you will still be required to fill out our waiver. All waivers are valid for one year from the date of signing. Thank you for your cooperation.
Minimum group size?
Dueling Axes has no minimum group size and our goal is for your group to have your own private throwing lane whenever possible. Whether you’re a group of 2, or renting out our entire facility with 109 of your closest friends, we have you covered.
Maximum group size?
As long as lanes are available there is no maximum group size for your party. We recommend no more than 6 people per lane so no one has to wait too long between turns. If you book a reservation for more than 6, our online scheduling software will automatically setup your group on adjoining throwing lanes.
Our lounges are full-service bars and you must be 21 or older to drink on our premises. We WILL ask for your ID, so if you’re not 21 or older, you won’t be drinking here, no exceptions.
I have a large group reservation. When can I come in to set up my event?
We’ll try to be as accommodating as possible for you to set up your event. In general, you can come in about 30 minutes before your event to begin set up. Depending on your event date/time, we may be able to work with you to set up earlier. Make sure to contact our team with any specific needs and we’ll work with you to iron out all the fine details.
What are the rules?
Axe throwing is sort of like darts in the sense there are many different styles of gameplay options. You’ll learn all of the safety procedures and scoring rules for our gameplay options during the brief training session before you throw. Our coaches will continue to be available to you and your group, as much or as little as you need, throughout your reservations to answer questions and help you out.
Can we take pictures?

Is Dueling Axes wheelchair accessible?
Absolutely, we want to bring the sport of axe throwing to everyone who has the itch.
Will my group ever get paired up with people we don’t know?
At Dueling Axes, our goal is to never pair you up with another group. If you want to show up and throw by yourself, that’s okay as well. However, with a group of 3 or less, we reserve the option to pair you up with another small group (kind of like a golf tee time), but we’ll only do this if we must and will never make combined groups larger than 6 throwers. Don’t be nervous if there are only a couple of you, pairing up groups is very rare outside of our busiest nights and even then, you’re going to have a great time making new friends!
